Course Description:

This course is designed to take a deep dive into security of today's web applications. It is composed of a series of hands-on exercises and demonstrations combined with lecture-based theory with the goal of teaching the core concepts behind modern web application security controls.

If you are interested in testing the security of modern single page apps with functionality such as APIs, CORS policies and JSON Web Tokens, then this is for you! The material covered in this course is suitable for a wide-range of technologists, including both seasoned and novice application penetration testers and developers and architects looking to understand how to better secure their web applications.

Class Requirements:

Attendees should have a basic understanding of web applications, including a grasp of concepts such as HTML, HTTP, and JavaScript. Prior knowledge of the OWASP Top 10 vulnerabilities is an asset but not strictly required.

Students who with to participate in the lab exercises must bring their own laptop with a recent version of VirtualBox installed and running. The class lab environment will be provided on a USB drive at the beginning of class. The lab virtual machine is self-contained; therefore, no Internet access is required to run the exercises but may be useful for research.
